Alta Velocita Rallies to Win Spruce Fir Handicap

Imaginary Stables and M3 Racing Stable Alta Velocita kept her place at the top of the New Jersey-bred filly and mare sprint division winning the $85,000 Spruce Fir Handicap on May 14 at Monmouth Park.

The 6-year-old mare by IL Postino out of Over the Bridge, by Hit the Trail stalked the early lead set by Jersey Jewel before dropping back a bit o the turn.  Alta Velocita rallied on the rail in the stretch to win by one length.

Trained by Andrew Simoff and ridden by Paco Lopez, Alta Velocita was fresh off a three-month layoff, splashing home in 1:12.07 for her second stakes victory in 20 career starts. She has won eight times from 20 career starts, with six of those victories coming at Monmouth Park.

Longshot I’m Listening was second in the field of nine fillies and mares three and up, two lengths ahead of Bramble Bay.

Bred in New Jersey by Law Legacy Stables, Alta Velocita was over $385,000 in career earnings.
