Smithwick’s Spice Continues Win Streak in Joey P.

New Spice Stable’s Smithwick’s Spice won his third consecutive race and first stakes success on September 18 in the $85,000 Joey P. Handicap at Monmouth Park. 

Smithwick’s Spice sat in the second position right off the leader Like What I See through a quarter mile in of 22.45 seconds and 45 seconds for the half-mile. The Doug Nunn trainee moved past the leader and drew off under jockey Jairo Rendon in the final sixteenth of a mile for an easy 3-length win in 56.84.

Smithwick’s Spice started his streak on August 7, in a $12,500 starter allowance at Monmouth. He then won a first-level allowance at the track on August 26 before notching his first stakes win in the Joey P.

Smithwick’s Spice has now won 7 of 24 starts for earnings of $363,437. The son of Frost Giant out of Spicy McHaggis, by Good and Tough is 3 for 3 over the Monmouth Park turf.
