Blue Sparkler, the nation's champion older mare of 1956, was foaled at Amory L. Haskell's Woodland Farm in Middletown, New Jersey. Blue Sparkler won four of her five starts as a 2-year-old, including victories in the Wanda Stakes and Home Bred Handicap, and finished second in the New Jersey Breeders' Stakes. As a 3-year-old she won the Miss Woodford Stakes and was second in the Monmouth Oaks to eventual champion Misty Morn. In 1956, her championship season, Blue Sparkler won the Regret Handicap, Molly Pitcher Handicap and beat males in the $100,000 Atlantic City Handicap.
Blue Sparkler was inducted in the New Jersey-bred Hall of Fame in 2014.
