Henry of Navarre was the Horse of the Year in 1894 and 1895 and beat the best of his era.  At 3 he had nine consecutive victories, including the Belmont and Travers Stakes.  After winning the Travers Stakes, Henry of Navarre met champion two-year-old Domino in a match race which finished in a dead heat.  Three weeks later they met again, along with older champion Clifford in a race to determine the 1894 championship.  Henry of Navarre beat his rivals by 3/4 length, earning Horse of the Year honors.

Henry of Navarre was inducted in the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame in 1985 and the New Jersey-bred Hall of Fame in 2012.
