Mia’s Crusade delivered another impressive performance on June 1, winning the $85,000 Smart N Classy Handicap, marking her sixth stakes victory, which ties her with Joey P. in restricted stakes wins. The consistent filly now has career earnings of $532,481.
Breaking sharply from the gate, Mia’s Crusade initially set the pace before jockey Paco Lopez eased her back, allowing Summer’s Comin—winner of the Spruce Fir Handicap—and My Two Sophia’s to take the early lead. Lopez then guided Mia’s Crusade on a three-wide move around the far turn, and she responded with a powerful run to claim a narrow lead at the top of the stretch. From that point, she pulled away comfortably under confident handling.
Owner Joseph Ioia praised the filly and the team behind her, stating, “Mia is totally honest, and we have a great team in the barn who deserve credit for the win.”
“Chuck Spina is the most experienced, honest, and straightforward trainer. Everyone participates, and everyone gets a fair shake. We are thrilled with the victory.”
Mia’s Crusade continues to demonstrate her exceptional ability and consistency, adding yet another milestone to her impressive record.
