Regret was foaled at Harry Payne Whitney's Brookdale Farm on property that is now occupied by Brookdale Community College and Thompson Park. Regret was undefeated at ages 2 and 3 including a win in the 1915 Kentucky Derby, becoming the first filly to win the world's most prestigious race. Many thoroughbred historians said that Regret's victory made the Kentucky Derby an American institution.
Regret was inducted in the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame in 1957 and the New Jersey-bred Hall of Fame in 2012.
